Discount does not equal value
This calculator does not tell you whether a game is worth buying. It makes the trade-off visible: the cash price falls during a sale, but every game you genuinely plan to finish also adds time to your backlog.
Use it before a sale checkout
If your cart contains several games, use the average normal price, average discount and a realistic average game length. The result shows how many weeks of your normal backlog time the purchase represents.
Example Steam sale backlog calculation
Buying 6 games with a normal average price of £30 at an average 60% discount costs about £72 instead of £180. If those games average 20 hours each, the same purchase adds roughly 120 hours of playtime to your backlog.
At 8 backlog-focused gaming hours per week, that is about 15 weeks of gaming before accounting for anything already in your library.
Use sale price and time together
A large discount tells you how much less you are paying than the listed price, but it does not tell you when you will actually play the games. Looking at the added hours alongside the spend makes it easier to compare the size of the purchase with your available gaming time.

How does the calculator estimate Steam sale savings?
It multiplies the normal average price by the number of games, then applies your average discount. The difference between the normal total and sale total is shown as the headline saving.
How are backlog hours calculated?
The calculator multiplies the number of games by their estimated average length. Dividing those hours by your weekly backlog gaming time gives an approximate number of weeks needed for the purchase alone.
Does a bigger discount mean I should buy the game?
No. The calculator does not judge whether a purchase is worthwhile. It shows the price, discount and time commitment so you can compare them with your own plans.
